The MVP — Material Velocity Protection valve, also referred to as the slug valve — is a pipeline protection device used in dense phase conveying systems to manage and absorb material slugs and pressure surges that occur during the conveying cycle. Dense phase conveying operates with discrete plugs or slugs of material moving through the pipeline at low velocity — and the controlled deceleration and absorption of these slugs at the receiving end is essential to system reliability.

The slug valve cushions the impact of arriving material slugs before they reach the receiving vessel or silo inlet — protecting the vessel, inlet connections, and instrumentation from repeated impact loading that would otherwise cause fatigue failure and maintenance problems over time.

In STAG AG’s dense phase conveying system design, the slug valve is an integral part of the receiving end arrangement — not an optional accessory. Its correct specification and installation directly affects long-term system reliability and the service life of the receiving vessel and associated pipework.

Key Applications: Dense phase system receiving end · Pressure vessel protection · Long-distance conveying terminals

Materials: All dense phase conveying materials — fly ash · raw meal · alumina · lime · chemical powders
